A delegation of the BRS MLAs led by party working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday, 20 July, apprised Telangana Governor CP Radhakrishnan how “irresponsibly” the Congress government was acting in the state in regard to issues that are related to the students besides engineering defection of the pink party MLAs.
Dubbing the luring of BRS MLAs into the Congress as an attack on the constitution, the party leaders complained to the Governor that the MLAs were being coerced to join the Congress.
After presenting a memorandum to the Governor, KTR said: “We brought to the Governor’s notice ongoing attack on the Constitution in Telangana, along with several other critical issues. Our party MLAs, MLCs, and available leaders met the Governor and brought to his notice how blatantly the Congress was ruining the state, ignoring its promises to the unemployed youth and students.”
Speaking on the students’ issues, KTR noted, “We detailed the Congress leaders’ announcements and promises concerning 2 lakh jobs and the job calendar. We informed the Governor about their failure to increase the number of posts for Groups I, II, and III, as promised.”
He added, “Additionally, we explained how repressive the Congress has become by arresting students and foisting cases against them for demanding implementation of promises made to them.”
KTR said that they had highlighted incidents like the lathi charge at City Central Library and attacks on OU students, which mirror the suppressive methods used during the Telangana movement days.
“The governor responding to the issues assured us that he would call the Home Secretary to inquire into them. The BRS party stands firmly with the unemployed youth of the state and will continue to fight until all promises made by the Congress are fulfilled,” he said.
“We appreciate the Governor’s serious response to the predicament the unemployed youth were going through,” KTR added.
Referring to the Congress’ campaign that Medigadda Barrage was beyond the scope of repair, KTR speaking to the media said: “The Congress must now bow its head in shame after spreading false propaganda that Medigadda was washed away and ₹1 lakh crore had gone down the river in Kaleshwaram.”
He added, “They spread false information about a minor issue. Medigadda’s ability to withstand the current floodwaters demonstrates the strength and greatness of the Kaleshwaram project. We will visit Medigadda soon and explain the actual situation to the people.”
The delegation, during its meeting with the governor, raised concerns about constitutional violations in the state and explained how their party MLAs and MLCs were being intimidated into joining the Congress.
“We are pursuing legal action and have also complained to the Speaker,” he said.
The delegation brought up the case of Danam Nagender, who, despite winning as a BRS MLA, contested as a Congress candidate in Parliament elections.
The BRS leader said that they had also informed the Governor about protocol violations for the MLAs and MLCs. “We told the Governor how the rights of MLAs are being infringed upon. He assured us that he would seek an explanation from the government and asked us to approach him with any future issues as an opposition party. The Governor promised to ensure justice within his jurisdiction,” he said.
The BRS leader slammed Rahul Gandhi for his contradictory stance on professing to protect the Constitution while simultaneously allowing defections of the BRS MLAs into the Congress. “We not only reported the unconstitutional acts of the Congress to the Governor but would also present them before the President,” he stated.
