Synopsis: Bandi Sanjay’s statement followed a row that broke out at a private school in Hyderabad after a teacher allegedly gave a Class 2 Hindu student homework asking him to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha, writing it in the student’s diary. The child’s family complained, and his aunt spoke to the press accusing the school of forcing religious customs on children.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Thursday, 16 July,  said the party would make it mandatory for all Hindu students to wear a Bottu (tilak), and for all Hindu girl students to wear bangles if it comes to power in Telangana.

Bandi Sanjay’s statement followed a row that broke out at a private school in Hyderabad after a teacher allegedly gave a Class 2 Hindu student homework asking him to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha, writing it in the student’s diary. The child’s family complained, and his aunt spoke to the press accusing the school of forcing religious customs on children.

The educational institution, Success school in Saidabad, has terminated the teacher from work, and family has since withdrawn the complaint filed against the school.

Criticism from Hindu religious groups

However, the incident drew criticism from Hindu religious groups and political parties.

BJP state president Ramchander Rao termed it as “Education Jihad” and accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of doing “appeasement politics”. He added that merely removing the teacher was not enough and strict action should be taken against the school.

Bandi Sanjay accused the school management of a forceful attack on Hindu culture, calling the incident unacceptable and criticizing the silence of “so-called secular organisations.” He said the entire Hindu community should strongly condemn it, and warned that if the issue is ignored, similar incidents could spread across Telangana.

Sanjay expressed confidence that BJP would win the next state assembly election and would take strict measures to safeguard Hindu culture and traditions.
