Telangana BJP Bandi Sanjay

In order to instil “naya josh” (new or fresh enthusiasm) among the cadre ahead of the Assembly elections in Telangana by this year-end, the state unit of the BJP has decided to conduct separate padayatras across Telangana covering all the Assembly constituencies.

Newly-appointed Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy, Karimnagar MP and former party chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Telangana BJP Election Management Committee Chairman Eatala Rajender are expected to be part of the padayatras.

Kishan Reddy will commence his yatra from the erstwhile Adilabad district covering Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar, Rajender will begin his yatra from Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Kondagattu covering Karimnagar, Medak, and Warangal districts. Bandi Sanjay will start his yatra from Bhadradri Kothagudem.

BJP leaders to take on padayatras

The yatras to be undertaken by the three senior party leaders are part of the 100-day action plan chalked out by the BJP to instil confidence among the cadre in every Assembly constituency. The party received an overwhelming response from people when Bandi Sanjay undertook his padayatra in four phases and covered 52 Assembly constituencies.

The public meeting organised to mark the completion of each phase of the yatra became a huge success, with the participation of people in large numbers. However, after the Karnataka election result, silence prevailed in the Telangana BJP unit, with most leaders staying away from the party activities.

The “Intintiki BJP” programme organised a few weeks ago failed to achieve the expected response from the cadre because of the infighting within the party. So in a bid to instil “Naya Josh”, the party leaders decided to take part in three separate padayatras and interact with the people and the cadre.

These yatras will also enable the leaders to counter the allegations levelled by the Congress that the BJP is acting as the B Team for the BRS, apart from explaining the various development and welfare schemes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last nine years.

Plans have also been drawn up to organise meetings from 16 July to meet 1,000 influential voters in each Assembly constituency to inform them that the BJP is the only party that is fighting against the anti-people policies of the BRS government.

Rearing up to take on BRS

On Tuesday, 11 July, Kishan Reddy chaired a meeting with the office-bearers at the state party headquarters, to review the preparedness of the party before commencing the padayatras.

He expressed confidence that the BJP would defeat the BRS and emerge victorious in the next Assembly elections to ensure administration without any corruption.

He called upon the cadre to continue to fight against the anti-people policies of the BRS government.

At a separate press conference on 11 July, BJP MP K Laxman said the BRS government was the most corrupt government in the country and added that most MLAs indulged in corruption in the Dalit Bandhu scheme.

Senior leaders adopt wait-and-watch policy

At a time when the BJP leaders want to focus on galvanising the cadre and gear them up for the Assembly elections, the silence of many senior leaders has kept the leadership perplexed.

The central leadership appointed Rajagopal Reddy as a national executive member after he hinted that the Congress was requesting him to return as early as possible.

Though Rajagopal Reddy attended a meeting chaired by BJP national president JP Nadda with party presidents and general secretaries from 11 states on Sunday and the recently-conducted public meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Warangal the previous day, it is unclear whether he will continue in the BJP or join the Congress.

Another senior leader, Vivek Venkatswamy, is also staying away from party activities ever since the internal squabble started. Sources said that both Vivek and Rajagopal were adopting a wait-and-watch policy.
