Taking a serious exception to the attack on BJP MLA Eatala Rajender on Tuesday, 1 November, saffron party leaders lodged a complaint with Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raja.

In the complaint, the BJP leaders requested Raja to initiate action against TRS MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy and the TRS crowd that he led, claiming they were responsible for the violence in the Munugode Assembly constituency, which is set to witness a bypoll on Thursday.

A delegation from the BJP, comprising the party’s state secretary S Prakash Reddy, national executive member N Indrasena Reddy, state legal cell joint convenor G Rama Rao, and party official spokesperson NV Subhash, made a representation to Raja over Tuesday’s violence.

They claimed a mob led by TRS MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy attacked Rajender and his wife in Palivela, which falls under the Munugode Assembly segment.

The delegation also said that the crowd pelted stones at Rajender’s convoy, which resulted in grievous injuries to his security personnel, his PRO, and three BJP activists.

Allegations of inaction

The leaders also said that their election agent Kapilavai Dilip Kumar had informed the poll panel that Palivela was a sensitive village, and urged the CEO to deploy Central forces along with the local police.

They said there were no Central forces to protect Rajender when the incident occurred.

They also said that it had come to their notice that several TRS MLAs and members were still stationed in the Munugode constituency, intent on disrupting the election process by creating a fear psychosis among voters.

The BJP leaders sought measures from the Election Commission to ensure that polling would go on peacefully on Thursday.

Rajender claims murder plot

Meanwhile, Rajender told reporters on Wednesday that the attack was part of a plot to murder him.

He also said that Telangana Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao would have to take responsibility for every drop of blood spilt in the attack.

He also claimed that BJP leaders were being attacked with the encouragement of the chief minister so that they would be unable to campaign for their party’s candidate in the Munugode by-election.

It may be noted that the BJP has already complained to the EC that the TRS was tapping the phones of its leaders in Munugode.
