In a shocking incident, a District Transport Officer (DTO) was killed in a tragic road accident after a coal-laden tipper lorry rammed into him while he was conducting vehicle inspections in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Monday, 22 June.
The deceased, identified as Venkanna, was inspecting vehicles along the Parakala-Bhupalpally highway near Chelpur village in Ganapuram mandal, opposite the Regional Transport Office (RTO), when the incident occurred.
According to officials, a speeding coal tipper suddenly veered towards the inspection team and hit Venkanna, killing him on the spot. The impact was severe, and the officer sustained fatal injuries.
Police rushed to the scene and took the tipper driver into custody. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
Venkanna had reportedly been transferred to Bhupalpally from Jagtial only a few weeks ago.
Reacting to the incident, former minister and BRS Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao demanded a comprehensive probe into the death.
In a statement on a social media platform, he alleged that the government should uncover the truth behind the incident and ascertain whether sand and coal mafias had any role in it.
“If officials who obstruct illegal activities are being targeted using heavy vehicles, it is a matter of serious concern,” Harish Rao said, urging the government to bring the facts behind Venkanna’s death before the public and ensure stringent action against those found guilty.
He also called for measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
