Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has reignited the call for justice in the Rohith Vemula case, accusing the BJP of rewarding those linked to the tragic death of the University of Hyderabad scholar.
Speaking in Delhi at a press conference alongside AICC SC Department Chairman Rajendra Pal Gautam, Bhatti demanded a national apology from the BJP and promised the introduction of a “Rohith Vemula Law” to protect the rights of marginalised students.
Citing Rohith’s suicide note, the Deputy CM said it shed light on the systemic discrimination faced by Dalit students on campus. He alleged that pressure from BJP leaders and the student wing ABVP led to the expulsion of Rohith and others, pushing him to take the extreme step.
Bhatti also pointed to what he called troubling promotions—naming BJP Telangana President Ramchander Rao and Delhi-based academic Sushil Kumar as individuals linked to the case who were later elevated to high positions.
He assured that the Telangana Government is preparing strong legislation in Rohith’s name and has already submitted a court petition to reopen the case. “No one will be spared,” Bhatti declared, underlining the Congress party’s commitment.
