Former state unit president of Telangana BJP and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday, 4 August, took charge as a national general secretary of the saffron party at the party headquarters in New Delhi. He performed special puja at his chambers and took blessings from the priests.

The central leadership of the BJP appointed him as a national general secretary a few days after replacing him as Telangana state BJP president with Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy.

In the evening, Sanjay landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad where the party supporters gave him a rousing welcome.

A rally was taken out from the airport to a function hall in Shamshabad where he addressed the party activists as part of a meet-and-greet programme.

‘Farmers facing untold miseries due to wrong policies’

Meanwhile, Kishan Reddy on Friday said the farmers were facing untold miseries because of the wrong policies adopted by the ruling BRS government in the state.

“Farmers in Telangana are falling prey to unintentional decisions taken by the ruling BRS government. Yet, the central government is determined to provide crop damage compensation to farmers under the Prime Minister’s Fasal Bheema Yojana scheme, but the BRS government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao ignored it,” he said in a Facebook post.

Though the State government failed to fulfil the promise to supply fertilisers free of cost to farmers, the Centre extended a helping hand to farmers by supplying fertilizers at a low price, he said.

Referring to input subsidies to farmers, Kishan Reddy alleged that the Chief Minister stopped all the input subsidies and dumped them into the Musi River.

‘Union govt working for farmers’ welfare’

He also said that the Union government was providing necessary equipment related to agriculture and its allied works to farmers through the Prime Minister’s farmer service centres.

“The ruling BRS is introducing schemes keeping in view Assembly elections but the Union government is only working for the welfare of farmers, Kishan Reddy said.

In the last nine years, the Union government has spent ₹1.24 lakh crore to buy paddy from farmers, ₹9,028 crore was spent under PM-Kisan Samman Fund, ₹33,000 crore for fertilizer subsidy, ₹6,338 crore for fertilisers production and ₹23,948 crore was spent from National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) to purchase livestock, he said.

According to Kishan Reddy, the BJP played a crucial role inside and outside the Parliament in support of separate statehood for Telangana adding that it was accomplished because lakhs of people joined the Telangana struggle.

Telangana was not formed by a single family or by a single person’s struggle, he added in an oblique reference to Chandrashekar Rao and his family.
