The Cyberabad police have arrested two people, including a transgender neighbour, for allegedly murdering an eight-year-old boy on Thursday, 20 April.
The incident occurred at Allauddin Koti in Sanath Nagar. The Class 3 boy, identified as Abdul Waheed Khan, went missing from the locality on Thursday evening.
The main accused has been identified as Imran Ali Khan, also known as Fiza Jahaan, who the police said dumped the boy’s body with the help of an autorickshaw driver named Rafeeq from Borabanda.
While Khan’s family initially alleged that this was a case of human sacrifice, the cops rejected it and said a financial dispute between the accused and the victim’s family was the reason behind the murder.
“We have taken both the accused in our custody and are trying to find whether anyone else was involved. The human sacrifice angle is a cooked-up story. We found no evidence of a human sacrifice at the crime scene,” Sanathnagar SHO M Muthu Yadav told South First.
As per the cops, the deceased’s father Wasim Khan sells clothes in Erragadda and is also an investor in a chit fund.
Every month, one investor can bid for the money collected through the chit.
As per reports, the victim’s father bid for the money collected through the chit in March and was supposed to get ₹15 lakh from the accused. But the accused had not paid it till date.
The victim, Abdul, informed his grandmother and left his home to offer Sehri namaz (prayers) early morning on Thursday.
However, when he did not return till the evening, the family searched for him before finally approaching the police.
Accessing local CCTV footage, the cops saw the boy entering Imran’s home. However, he never left the place. The cops then saw a gunny bag being loaded and taken away in an autorickshaw by Imran.
The boy’s body was found early on Friday morning in a drain in Moosapet. It was stuffed in a plastic bucket wrapped in a polythene gunny bag.
His legs and arms were broken, which according to the police might have been due to efforts to fit the body into the bucket.
This made the locals suspect a human sacrifice ritual behind the murder.
A tense situation prevailed in the neighbourhood on Friday as outraged relatives and neighbours of the deceased vandalised Imran’s house and damaged furniture.
Meanwhile, the cops took Imran as well as the auto driver into custody for questioning.
According to the police, the auto driver believed Imran when he said that some garbage at his home had to be thrown away.
The Balanagar police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
Telangana Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Cinematography Talasani Srinivas visited the victim’s family and assured them that the case would be fast-tracked.
“The incident is not only sad but also worrying. We are taking this case very seriously,” the BRS leader told reporters.
“Both accused have been arrested. No one will be spared. The ones responsible will be taken to task. It is unacceptable that an innocent boy has been so brutally murdered. Justice will prevail,” he added.
He assured the boy’s family that the government would extend financial assistance.
