Haath-se-Haath Jodo Yatra Revanth Reddy

Senior leaders skipped the Telangana Congress’ extended executive committee meeting convened under the leadership of the party’s state president A Revanth Reddy at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Sunday, 18 December.

The meeting had reportedly been called to discuss the “Haath-se-Haath Jodo Yatra” to be undertaken by him from 26 January, 2023.

The meeting assumed significance amid the crisis following remarks made by the senior leaders on Saturday that the party executive committee was packed with those who migrated from the TDP.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MLA T Jagga Reddy, and others did not attend the meeting.

On Saturday, these senior leaders alleged that the loyalists in the party were sidelined by the existing party leadership and 50 percent of the leaders, who came from TDP, found themselves on the list of 108 newly-named office-bearers.

However, AICC secretary Nadeem Javed, senior leader and former ministers K Jana Reddy, Mohammed Shabbir Ali and G Chinna Reddy, and former MPs M Anjan Kumar Yadav and P Balaram Naik attended the meeting.

District party unit presidents, vice-presidents, and general secretaries also participated in the meeting.

Every village to be covered

During the executive committee meeting, the leaders discussed the Haath-se-Haath Jodo Yatra. A decision was taken to cover every village during the proposed yatra.

A few leaders tried to raise the remarks made by the seniors on Saturday. But the state leadership asked them to confine themselves to the agenda.

A separate resolution was passed in praise of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for completing 100 days of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The leaders also congratulated the newly appointed office-bearers and asked them to work for strengthening the party on all fronts.

Former MLA A Anil Kumar, in conversation with reporters, came down heavily on the senior leaders who were “unnecessarily” making remarks against the state leadership.

These remarks indicated that an attempt was being made to weaken the party in the state and stop getting mileage to the yatra to be undertaken by Revanth Reddy, he said.

He also criticised the senior leaders for failing to respond after the raids on the office of Congress strategist Sunil Kanugolu, and dismissed the allegations that CLP leader Bhatti Mallu Vikramarka had no information about the new office-bearers.
