Modi in Telangana

Buoyed by the success of his Parade Ground meeting in Secunderabad on Saturday, 11 November — where he assured Dalits he would resolve the Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-categorisation imbroglio permanently — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Telangana for three consecutive days from 25 to 27 November.

As the campaign intensifies for the 30 November election, the BJP has decided to rope in its biggest voter-puller to address a public meeting in Karimnagar on 25 November, followed by a meeting at Nirmal the next day.

Modi will finally take part in a roadshow in Hyderabad on 27 November — the day before campaigning comes to a close on of the evening of 28 November.

With the aim of garnering the support of voters, the Telangana BJP is gearing up to mobilise the public for Modi’s programmes.

Saturday’s rally was the secondd by Modi in Telangana since the announcement of the Assembly election schedule by the Election Commission of India. He earlier attended the BC Atma Gourava Sabha organised at LB Stadium to target the Backward Classes (BCs).

Banking on Modi

The Telangana BJP is mainly relying on the charisma of Modi to garner support from the voters, especially the business community, women and youth.

At the Parade Ground meeting, Modi termed the BRS and Congress as anti-Dalit, while at LB Stadium meeting, he launched a blistering attack on the two parties for neglecting the BC communities.

Several Union ministers and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states are also set to visit Telangana to take part in the election campaign.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already addressed a public meeting in the state and declared that a leader from among the BCs would be made the chief minister of Telangana if the BJP was voted to power in the Assembly elections.

Union Minister for Defence Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and other senior leaders have visited Telangana and addressed separate meetings.

Meanwhile, Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy said the party would release its election manifesto after Deepavali.

He said the BRS and the Congress were resorting to false propaganda against the BJP. At the state party headquarters, he also welcomed senior TRS leader and former MLA Prem Singh Rathod into the party.
