Synopsis: The Principal Secretary of the Telangana Finance Department, Sandeep Kumar Sultania IAS, was produced before the Telangana High Court by Hyderabad police on Friday, 7 August under a bailable warrant issued in a contempt of court case. The case was initiated by former Secunderabad Cantonment Board member J Ramakrishna, who alleged that the State government had failed to comply with a December 2024 High Court order.
Senior IAS officer Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary of the Telangana Finance Department, was produced before the Telangana High Court by Hyderabad police on Friday, 7 August, under a bailable warrant issued by the court in a contempt of court case.
The proceedings come weeks after the High Court directed the removal of HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath for repeated violations of court orders, noting that 63 contempt cases were pending against him.
The present contempt petition was filed by J Ramakrishna, a former member of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, who alleged that the State government had failed to comply with the High Court’s 18 December 2024 order directing authorities to examine his request for repayment of the stamp duty surcharge levied on the Cantonment Board.
While hearing the contempt case on 10 July, Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka directed the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to locate and arrest Sultania and produce him before the court by 10.30 am on 7 August.
The order had also provided that he could be released on bail on furnishing a personal bond of ₹5,000 with an undertaking to appear before the court on the said date and continue attending subsequent hearings unless directed otherwise.
