Andhra Pradesh police arrests former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi in Hyderabad

The police arrested him after one Satyavardhan lodged a complaint stating that Vallabhaneni Vamsi had kidnapped him.

Synopsis: Vallabhaneni Vamsi, former Gannavaram MLA and YSRCP leader, was arrested by Vijayawada Patamata Police on 13 February under sections of the BNSS pertaining to kidnapping, assault, and the SC and ST Atrocities Prevention Act. The arrest followed a complaint by Satyavardhan, who accused Vamsi of kidnapping him after being threatened. Vamsi is also implicated in multiple other cases, including a 2021 TDP office attack.

Vijayawada Patamata Police on Wednesday, 13 February, arrested former Gannavaram MLA and YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi from an apartment in Rayadurgam, Hyderabad. He is currently being moved to Vijayawada.

The police have registered a case against him under sections of the BNSS pertaining to kidnapping, assault, and the SC and ST Atrocities Prevention Act.

The police arrested him after one Satyavardhan lodged a complaint stating that Vallabhaneni Vamsi had kidnapped him.

Vamsi is also an A-71 accused in the case related to the attack on the TDP office in Gannavaram, in erstwhile Krishna district, in February 2023, during the YSRCP regime.

The complainant, Satyavardhan was a computer operator in the TDP office. Interestingly, Satyavardhan had earlier stated before the special court that dealt with SC and ST cases that he had nothing to do with the case.

However, he later lodged a complaint with the police, claiming that he had given false testimony in court because he was threatened.

Acting on the complaint, the Vijayawada police reached Hyderabad and arrested Vamsi.

Vamsi is also involved in other cases, including the demolition of shops belonging to one V Srinivasa Rao in Arugolanu, Bapulapadu mandal in the erstwhile Krishna district. He is also accused in an attempt to murder case, assault, and fake house site pattas cases.

He won from the Gannavaram Assembly constituency on a TDP ticket in 2014 and again in 2019. He later joined the YSRCP and fought the 2024 elections on a YSRCP ticket but lost.

Vamsi is also a film producer. He produced Telugu films like Jr NTR’s Adhurs (2010)and Ravi Teja’s Touch Chesi Chudu (2018).
