Synopsis: Sudheer Reddy was arrested at the upscale Nanakramguda during a routine anti-drug operation by the Excise and Anti-Narcotics Special Enforcement Bureau team of the Telangana Police, in coordination with local Narsingi police.

Andhra Pradesh’s BJP MLA C Adinarayana Reddy’s son, Sudheer Reddy Chadipiralla, was arrested for alleged drug consumption in Hyderabad on Saturday, 3 January.

Sudheer Reddy was arrested at the upscale Nanakramguda during a routine anti-drug operation by the Excise and Anti-Narcotics Special Enforcement Bureau (EAGLE) team of the Telangana Police, in coordination with local Narsingi police.

His father, Adinarayana Reddy, represents the Jammalamadugu constituency in the Kadapa district in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Police said Sudheer Reddy was arrested following an inspection at a residence in Nanakramguda late on Saturday. The inspection was based on credible information about drug-related activities in the area.

Besides Sudheer Reddy, another individual was detained. Both underwent on-site drug screening tests. In Sudheer Reddy’s case, the test reportedly returned positive for substance consumption.

Police sources stated that standard procedures were followed.

Following the test, Sudheer Reddy was formally arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for the consumption of a narcotic drug.

However, he was shifted to a private de-addiction and rehabilitation centre for immediate treatment and counselling.

Officials said that the action was part of ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse in Hyderabad. There was no indication of larger-scale possession or distribution in this specific incident.

The incident has created ripples in political circles, given Adinarayana Reddy’s prominence as a BJP legislator representing the faction-ridden Jammalamadugu seat.

The MLA, known for his political shifts across parties, including Congress, YSRCP, TDP and now BJP, has maintained a low profile regarding his son’s personal matters.

Telangana’s EAGLE Team, established to tackle drug peddling and consumption, has been conducting frequent checks across the city, leading to several detentions in recent months.
