Synopsis: Telangana government has cleared ₹320-cr cable-stayed bridge over Mir Alam Tank. KNR Constructions has been awarded the EPC contract to link Bengaluru NH-44 (Shastripuram) with Chintalmet Road. The new Hyderabad landmark will ease airport traffic, enhance Musi riverfront tourism. The construction will begin end-November 2025.
In a move that promises to add another architectural landmark to Hyderabad’s skyline, the Telangana government has cleared the construction of a new cable-stayed bridge across the historic Mir Alam Tank.
The project, estimated at around Rs 320 crore, will be executed by M/s. KNR Constructions Limited under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
The government issued formal approval through G.O. Rt. No. 791 on November 10, 2025, following recommendations from the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL).
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department has cleared the proposal with the final nod coming from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
According to official documents, the tender was accepted at a bid value of Rs 319.24 crore — 4.89 percent higher than the internal benchmark estimate of ₹304.36 crore. KNR Constructions, an infrastructure firm known for road and bridge projects across India, will take up the full scope of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning responsibilities.
The proposed bridge will connect the Bengaluru National Highway (NH-44) at Shastripuram with Chintalmet Road, offering a direct link across Mir Alam Tank, one of Hyderabad’s oldest reservoirs built during the Nizam era in the early 19th century.
The bridge aims to ease traffic congestion along existing routes and reduce travel time for commuters heading towards the airport and western city suburbs.
Planned as a cable-stayed structure, the new bridge will combine utility with striking aesthetics — much like the iconic Durgam Cheruvu bridge at Hitec City, which has become a major visual symbol of Hyderabad’s modern infrastructure. Officials expect the Mir Alam bridge to serve as a similar landmark for the southern part of the city, enhancing both mobility and the city’s urban landscape.
The bridge over Mir Alam Tank is also part of the Musi Riverfront Development initiative, which seeks to rejuvenate Hyderabad’s water bodies and improve the city’s ecological and recreational zones.
The bridge will impart a visual uplift to Mir Alam tank through landscaped embankments and improved connectivity, boosting tourism and promoting environmental conservation.
According to official sources, the MRDCL will serve as the nodal agency for implementation, overseeing the project through regular reviews and progress reports to the MA&UD Department.
The EPC Committee-II had earlier evaluated the tenders on October 1, 2025, before recommending KNR Constructions for the job. The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) will be issued shortly, followed by the signing of the agreement that will authorise the commencement of work.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of November 2025. Although an exact completion date has not been specified, similar EPC-mode bridge projects of this scale typically take between 24 and 36 months, subject to environmental and regulatory clearances.
Officials indicated that key challenges such as potential environmental impacts and land acquisition issues have been addressed through eco-friendly design provisions and streamlined urban development procedures.
Once completed, the bridge will not only decongest traffic on the Bengaluru Highway corridor but also stand as a symbol of Hyderabad’s continuing transformation into a modern, well-connected metropolis.
Like the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge that redefined the city’s western skyline, the Mir Alam Tank bridge is expected to become a new visual and infrastructural landmark for southern Hyderabad.
