Questioning the PM's silence, she said that the country is in a situation of crisis and demanded that he explain himself to the people.
Demanding an investigation into the allegations levelled by the US-based Hindenburg Research against the Adani Group, BRS MLC K Kavitha on Monday, 6 February, asked for the formation of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) for it.
“Why is the prime minister silent? How can the finance minister (Nirmala Sitharaman) say that the Adani fiasco will not impact us and that everything is fine when the people’s wealth evaporates to the extent of ₹10 lakh crore?” she asked while speaking to reporters at the Legislative Council in Hyderabad.
“We know with whose support Adani expanded his business empire from ₹60,000 crore to ₹10 lakh crore,” she said.
She added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come forward and clear things for the people.
“They all (the Finance Ministry, RBI, SEBI, and banks that gave loans to Adani) are repeating the mantra of ‘all is well’ even when global newspapers are writing something else. So, a JPC with members from all parties should be constituted,” Kavitha asserted.
The BRS leader also demanded an increase in funds for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), which saw a sharp decline in the recently-presented Union budget.
Calling it a situation of crisis in the country, Kavitha aimed criticism at the statement of Sitharaman, who recently said that there would be no impact on the country’s economy even if the share values of Adani’s companies fell.
“Along with Adani, the value of shares of companies such as SBI and LIC has also fallen heavily since 23 January. This means something is wrong. It has caused severe loss to the common man. The ₹3,436 share value of Adani has fallen to ₹1,400 today,” Kavitha said.
Questing the prime minister’s silence, she said, “Modi has a moral responsibility to come forward and explain the Adani fiasco to the people. The whole world knows that Adani has made enormous wealth with the help of Modi.”
Kavitha expressed happiness over Telangana’s budget of ₹2.9 lakh crore, which was presented by the state Finance Minister Harish Rao on Monday.

“If Modi’s budget depresses the country, KCR’s budget will inspire the country. The budget has been done proportionately and, in the social sector, there are allocations according to the population of the respective groups,” she stated.
Noting that Telangana’s budget could make the rural economy reach up to ₹31,000 crore, she accused the Modi-led Union government of neglecting the rural system.
#TelanganaBudget2023 has once again proven that there can be leaders who work to empower common people, unlike Modi Govt’s ‘budget of the corporates’
Hon’ble CM KCR Garu is an inspiration who showed the way forward for fair distribution of resources.

The MGNREGS, flagged off in 2004 during former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s tenure, guarantees 100 days of wage employment to at least one member of every household engaged in unskilled labour.
Kavitha stated that if the people of India can eat two meals a day, MGNREGS has definitely contributed to it.
It should be noted that during the Union budget presentation on 1 February, Sitharaman announced a sharp ₹13,000 crore cut in the MNREGS funds — from ₹73,000 crore in 2022 to ₹60,000 crore this year.
Even the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the umbrella body of around 40 farmers’ unions, expressed its disappointment over it.
