ACB seizes assets worth Rs 2.81 crore from TGSPDCL officer in Hyderabad raids

Synopsis: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday seized assets worth ₹2.81 crore and arrested Ambedkar Erugu, Assistant Divisional Engineer of the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited, in a disproportionate assets case in Hyderabad. Simultaneous searches at his residence and at 10 other locations linked to him and his relatives uncovered several properties and valuables, which the agency said had been acquired by abusing his official position.

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on  on Tuesday, 16 September arrested Ambedkar Erugu, Assistant Divisional Engineer (Operations), Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), Ibrahim Bagh division, in a disproportionate assets case.

Erugu has allegedly amassed wealth far beyond his known sources of income by indulging in “unlawful practices and dubious means” during his service, the ACB said in a press statement.

Searches were carried out simultaneously at his residence and at 10 other places linked to him and his relatives. Officials said the raids led to the unearthing of several properties and valuables.

These include a flat in Serilingampally, a six-storey building in Gachibowli, and a company named Amtaar Chemicals spread across 10 acres of land. The firm, established in 2023, lists both Erugu and his wife, Sunanda Erugu, as directors.

Investigators also found six prime residential open plots in Hyderabad, one farmland, two four-wheelers, gold ornaments, and several bank deposits. In addition, cash amounting to ₹2.81 crore was recovered from the residence of a suspected benami associated with Erugu.

“The searches revealed that the above Accused Officer has acquired these movable and immovable properties by abusing his official position,” the ACB said in a press release. Officials noted that the market value of the seized assets is expected to be much higher than the official estimates.

Following the raids, Erugu was taken into custody and produced before court. He is being sent to judicial remand. The ACB confirmed that searches are still ongoing and further investigation is in progress to ascertain the full scale of his alleged illegal assets.
