ACB arrests two Telangana govt officials in separate bribery cases

Hakeem is arrested and produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Hyderabad, with further probe ongoing.

Synopsis: A Mandal Revenue Inspector in Nalgonda and a Legal Metrology Inspector in Khammam were arrested by Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding bribes of ₹20,000 and ₹5,000 respectively. Both officers were caught red-handed, with cases registered and further investigations underway. The ACB urged citizens to confidentially report bribery.

A Mandal Revenue Inspector from Gurrampode in Nalgonda district was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday, 2 February, after allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of ₹20,000 in exchange for an official favour.

The officer, Mohammed Abdul Hakeem, was trapped around 1 pm at the Mandal Revenue Office premises after reportedly demanding the sum from a complainant to process and forward an application to the Tahsildar for reinstating deleted land records in the online 1-B Register.

ACB officials confirmed that the tainted amount was recovered from the accused at his instance. He is arrested and produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Hyderabad, with further probe ongoing.

Similar arrest made in Khammam

In a separate case, ACB officers arrested Legal Metrology Inspector B Praveen Kumar in Khammam for allegedly demanding a bribe.

According to Khammam range ACB DSP Y Ramesh, licensed repairers install and service weighing and measuring equipment at petrol stations, supermarkets, and weighbridges used for heavy trucks, with certification required from the legal metrology department.

The inspector allegedly demanded ₹10,000 to certify a repaired weighbridge, later reducing the amount to ₹5,000. Their telephone conversation was recorded, and based on this evidence, Praveen Kumar was arrested on Monday night at his office.

DSP Ramesh stated that the accused would be produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Warangal.
