ACB arrests Nizamabad Excise Superintendent, finds assets worth around Rs 3 crore

Synopsis: ACB sleuths searched 11 locations belonging to Kommuri Mallareddy and people linked to him as part of the bureau’s crackdown on corruption.

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday, 23 June, arrested Kommuri Mallareddy, Nizamabad District Prohibition and Excise Superintendent, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Mallareddy was arrested after searches at his residence and 10 other locations owned by those linked to him. The arrest was part of ACB’s continuing crackdown on corruption in public service departments.

Authorities alleged that Mallareddy systematically exploited his official position over the years to amass wealth disproportionate to his income.

During the searches, officials identified immovable properties, including four residential houses, one commercial block, eight open plots, and 10.23 acres of agricultural land. The inspections also uncovered net cash of approximately ₹3.31 lakh and bank balances amounting to ₹50 lakh.

Three bank lockers, held in the names of the accused officer’s wife and other relatives, were also flagged and would be examined as part of the investigation. A Maruti Grand Vitara car and a TVS Scooty were also recovered.

The total documented value of detected assets came to approximately ₹3 crore. However, ACB officials noted that the actual market value of immovable properties would be manifold higher.

Mallareddy has been charged under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and was subsequently presented before the II Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB Cases at Nampally, Hyderabad, and remanded in judicial custody.

The bureau said efforts to trace additional assets were underway.
