Hours after A Revanth Reddy took oath as the chief minister of Telangana, his Cabinet on Thursday, 7 December, decided to implement two of the Congress’ poll promises by the end of the week, while the rest would be implemented in 100 days.
The Congress, in the run-up to the Telangana Assembly elections, had made six poll guarantees to the people of the state, promising to fulfil them in quick order if it came to power.
The model had already borne fruit for the party in neighbouring Karnataka, where five poll guarantees helped it dislodge the BJP from power in the May Assembly elections.

Minister D Sridhar Babu told reporters after the Cabinet meeting that two of the six guarantees of the Congress would be implemented on 9 December, the birthday of Sonia Gandhi.
The decision was taken at a two-hour-long meeting of the new Cabinet, which Revanth Reddy chaired.
The two guarantees that will be implemented from Saturday are free bus rides for women across the state, and increasing health insurance for the poor to ₹10 lakh.
The first has already been implemented in Karnataka, and has been deemed a huge success there.
Sridhar Babu said: “The government endeavours to implement all the guarantees within the first 100 days.”
According to him, the chief minister would hold a discussion with power officials on Friday to discuss the implementation of the promise to supply 200 units of electricity free of cost to domestic households.
“Let there be no doubts. We shall ensure 24-hour supply to the agricultural and industrial sectors,” he said.
Sridhar Babu, on a different note, also said that officials had been asked to prepare a detailed report on the state of finances.
He added that a “white paper” would be released on the expenditure incurred under different heads during the regime of BRS chief and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao from 2014 to 2023.
