Addressing a public meeting of TVK, Vijaya said his party is open to forming a coalition government.
Tamil Nadu Congress General Secretary M Saravanan has demanded berths for his party in the MK Stalin-led state Cabinet.
The demand, incidentally, was triggered by the newly launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
In a letter to Chief Minister Stalin, Saravanan referred to the debut public meeting of actor Vijay’s TVK. “Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam President Vijay has said that his party is ready for a coalition government if he wins the Assembly elections. Therefore, you should immediately accommodate our coalition parties in the Cabinet,” he urged the DMK supremo.
Saravanan said the DMK had come to power with the support of the coalition partners. “It would be good if a coalition government flourishes in Tamil Nadu. This is what the people of Tamil Nadu are expecting,” he said.
“Therefore, you should fulfill the wishes of the people of Tamil Nadu and set an example,” he demanded.
At a Deepavali celebration, South Chennai Central District Congress President MA Muthalakan said electoral alliances ended with the polls. “We have to raise our voice when things are going against the people,” he said.
Muthalakan further opined that the Congress’s central leadership should be informed about the mood of the party workers.
Referring to TVK, he said a recently launched party, too, has been speaking about sharing power. “We must seize this opportunity. At least one person from the Congress should be a minister,” he said.
A few days ago, Saravanan and Muthalakan created a flutter within the Congress and the DMK-led alliance by demanding a share of the power.
However, Tamil Nadu Congress President K Selvaperunthagai appealed to party members not to embarrass him with the talk of power sharing.
Another alliance partner, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), too, had demanded a Cabinet berth.
Senior journalist R Ramesh said the demand for a share in government rose from the Congress rather than the VCK.
“The DMK does not respect the alliance partners in many places. This may be the reason why this voice is raised. But the decision to share power will be taken by the DMK and the national leaders of the Congress,” he said.
