Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay thanked voters and his party workers for participating in a historic democratic moment in Tamil Nadu. He was referring to the 23 April Assembly elections.
Calling the reported 85% voter turnout unprecedented in the state’s electoral history, he said long-held assumptions that politics was the domain of only the powerful and experienced had been shattered by ordinary people.
Vijay noted that youth and women, once perceived as politically disengaged, have now begun actively participating and voicing their opinions, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
He described scenes of voters arriving at polling booths like festival crowds, with families turning out in large numbers. He also acknowledged those who travelled from other states and abroad at personal expense to cast their votes, calling them true democrats.
