Death.

In a shocking incident, a Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) functionary allegedly hacked his wife — a councillor — to death in a fit of rage, accusing her of betrayal after he had loved, married, educated her in law, and helped her become a councillor.

Stephen Raj, a resident of Periya Colony in Thiruninravur, serves as the VCK Thiruninravur town secretary. His wife, Gomathi, was the VCK councillor for the 26th ward and also served as the Thiruninravur municipality’s tax committee chairperson. The couple had been married for over 10 years and had four sons. They were in a love marriage.

Recently, it is alleged that Gomathi had been in an extramarital relationship with another man. This led to frequent quarrels between her and her husband, Stephen Raj.

On the day of the incident, Stephen Raj reportedly received information that Gomathi was meeting her male friend near Jayaram Nagar in Naduguthagai. He rushed to the location, where he found her conversing with the man. A heated argument broke out between the couple. As the quarrel escalated, the man allegedly fled the scene, after which Stephen Raj, in a fit of rage, took out a hidden knife and repeatedly hacked his wife on her head, face, and neck.

During the brutal assault, Gomathi’s hand was severed. She collapsed in a pool of blood and died on the spot.

After committing the murder, Stephen Raj went to the Thiruninravur police station and surrendered. The police arrested him and are now conducting a detailed investigation into the motive behind the murder. The gruesome act has triggered shock and unrest in the region.
