Synopsis: The journalists were reporting the abduction and assault of a YouTuber, who had recorded the reaction of those who had watched Vijay’s Jananayagan.
Sholinghur police have registered a case against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA G Kapil and his brother Dhananchezhiyan for allegedly detaining and assaulting two journalists.
The case was registered based on a complaint by one of the journalists, T Aranganathan.
Aranganathan said he and another journalist, Kalyanasundran, were covering an assault on a YouTuber, Siva, who recorded people’s reactions to Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s latest movie, Jananayagan, at Vanniyar Complex/Sadhasivam Photo Studio in Sholinghur on 27 July.
He said Kapil and his supporters assaulted them, detained them and issued death threats.
The two journalists and Siva suffered injuries and were hospitalised. It is alleged that Kapil’s followers picked Siva from his residence and too him to Vanniyar Complex.
Police registered the case under sections 296(b), 115(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, on 15 August.
