Synopsis: TVK further claimed that Kamaraj had earlier informed them that he was extending support to the party with the consent of AMMK General Secretary Dhinakaran. The party said reports claiming that Kamaraj did not write the letter were “false and misleading” and accused Dhinakaran of spreading misinformation while concealing facts.
A fresh political controversy has emerged in Tamil Nadu after AMMK (Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam) MLA Kamaraj allegedly went missing amid claims of “horse-trading” by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The development comes after AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran submitted a complaint to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar alleging that TVK was attempting to poach the Mannargudi MLA.
Amid the controversy, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam released a video showing Kamaraj signing a letter extending support to the party. In a statement, TVK said the MLA had voluntarily and happily submitted the letter backing the party.
TVK further claimed that Kamaraj had earlier informed them that he was extending support to the party with the consent of AMMK General Secretary Dhinakaran. The party said reports claiming that Kamaraj did not write the letter were “false and misleading” and accused Dhinakaran of spreading misinformation while concealing facts.
The party also rejected allegations of horse-trading and asserted that it had no need to bargain or negotiate with anyone for support.
“People should understand that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has no necessity to engage in any form of horse-trading,” the statement said.
AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and handed over a letter extending support to the AIADMK to form the new government in the state.
In the letter dated May 8, 2026, Dhinakaran conveyed AMMK’s full support to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s claim to form the government and requested the Governor to invite him to take oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The letter also stated that AMMK candidate and newly elected Mannargudi MLA Kamaraj S has signed in support of the claim.
Dhinakaran also complained to the Governor that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was allegedly attempting to poach the AMMK MLA from Mannargudi. He claimed that Kamaraj S could not be contacted and alleged that efforts were being made to lure him away.
Dhinakaran asks TVK to release the letter
TVV Dhinakaran on Saturday, 9 May, questioned TVK, asking it to release the “original letter” if its claim that AMMK MLA Kamaraj had extended support to the party was true.
Speaking to reporters, Dhinakaran said that both he and Kamaraj had signed and submitted a letter to the Governor expressing support for the AIADMK. “If what TVK is claiming is true, then why don’t they release the original letter?” he asked.
Questioning the authenticity of the video released by TVK regarding Kamaraj, Dhinakaran asked who recorded the video, where it was shot, and for what purpose it was taken. He alleged that TVK and its leader Vijay were resorting to lies to come to power despite claiming to follow the ideals of B. R. Ambedkar.
Dhinakaran further claimed that there was no truth in the video released by TVK regarding Kamaraj and alleged that the footage may have been artificially created.
He also accused TVK of preparing a fake support letter and submitting it to the Governor in an attempt to poach their MLA through horse-trading.
Congress questions delay
Meanwhile, Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Friday alleged that “powerful forces rejected by the people” were trying to prevent Vijay from becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
In a post on X, Tagore said, “Powerful forces rejected by the people are once again intervening to stop Vijay from becoming the Chief Minister.”
Questioning the alleged delay in government formation, he asked, “How many more obstacles are they going to create against the democratic will of the people?”
He further said that while authority may delay the people’s verdict, it cannot suppress it forever, adding that “this struggle for the people’s rights and justice will continue.”
