Synopsis: Actor Vijay’s wife, Sankgeetha, has filed a fresh petition in the Chengalpattu court on 22 February, alleging threats from Vijay’s lawyers and seeking interim rights to reside in their Neelankarai matrimonial home. Her main petition seeks divorce under the Special Marriage Act, permanent alimony, and residential rights, intensifying controversy around Vijay amid ongoing political and public scrutiny.
Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay’s wife, Sankgeetha Vijay, had filed a divorce petition in December 2025 before the Chengalpattu court, alleging that Vijay was in a relationship with another woman and seeking dissolution of their marriage. The matter recently came to light and created a major stir.
Amid this, Sankgeetha has now filed fresh petition dated 22 February, in the Chengalpattu court alleging that Vijay’s lawyers threatened that if she pursued legal action, she would not be allowed to enter the Neelankarai house where Vijay currently resides and which she considers her matrimonial home.
Sankgeetha has filed the main petition under Sections 27(1)(a), (b) and (d) read with Sections 36 and 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, seeking dissolution of the marriage solemnised on August 25, 1999, in Chennai.
She has also sought payment of fair and reasonable permanent alimony from the respondent.
In addition, the petitioner has sought the right to continue residing in the matrimonial home located at No. 36, Casuarina Drive, Sri Kapaleeshwar Nagar, Neelankarai, Chennai, until the disposal of the main petition or until equivalent alternative accommodation is provided.
In her new petition, Sankgeetha has stated that the respondent, through his advocate, made it clear that she would not be permitted to reside in the matrimonial home if she approached the court seeking legal separation.
Fearing that she may be denied residential accommodation in the Neelankarai house where she has lived for the past 26 years, Sankgeetha has filed the new petition in the Chengalpattu court.
She has also stated in her petition that as a British national, she does not have any other residential accommodation commensurate with the status of the respondent’s family.
Therefore, she has sought an interim order from the court permitting her to continue residing in the matrimonial home with all rights, amenities and facilities available to her until the main petition is disposed of.
Recently, after details of Sankgeetha’s initial petition surfaced, actor and political leader Vijay faced mixed reactions and criticism from various quarters. However, Vijay has not issued any statement or response regarding the matter.
Notably, Vijay did not address the issue even during the recent party functionaries’ meeting in Thanjavur or at subsequent election campaign events where he spoke.
Meanwhile, a video that surfaced on 5 March showing Vijay attending the wedding reception of film producer Kalpathi S. Suresh’s son along with actor Trisha further fuelled the controversy.
In this context, Sankgeetha has now approached the court again, stating that Vijay’s side is preventing her from residing in the house where she has lived for 26 years, and seeking a court order allowing her to continue staying there until the main petition is decided.
The fresh petition is expected to add to Vijay’s mounting troubles.
