TVK chief Vijay declares assets worth over ₹624 crore in election affidavit

According to the affidavit, his movable assets are valued at ₹404.58 crore, while the current market value of his immovable assets stands at ₹220.15 crore.

Synopsis: Vijay, who filed his papers from Perambur in Chennai, is pinning his hopes on the constituency’s large working-class population. While announcing the TVK’s list of candidates on Sunday, actor-turned-politician Vijay had said that he would contest from Tiruchirappalli East also, besides Perambur.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay has declared total assets exceeding ₹624 crore in his election affidavit filed along with his nomination.

According to the affidavit, his movable assets are valued at ₹404.58 crore, while the current market value of his immovable assets stands at ₹220.15 crore.

The affidavit also lists pending income tax dues, as per the Bengaluru CPC Cell:

  • 2011–12: ₹91,36,450
  • 2015–16: ₹88,96,818
  • 2015–16: ₹1,50,00,000
  • 2022–23: ₹14,13,374

Vijay, who is set to make his debut in the electoral politics filed his nomination papers on Monday, 30 March.

Monday was the first day of filing nominations for the 23 April Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay, who filed his papers from Perambur in Chennai, is pinning his hopes on the constituency’s large working-class population. He is also contesting from Trichy east constituency.

A huge crowd had gathered in Vyasarpadi much before Vijay arrived to file his nomination papers. He was accompanied by TVK general secretary N Anand and joint general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar.

Vijay had earlier said that the elections in the state will be a direct battle between the people and what he described as corruption and misgovernance.

“This election is a battle between the people of Tamil Nadu and the DMK. It is a battle between the people of Tamil Nadu and Stalin. This election is a battle between Vijay and Stalin,” he said on 23 February.

The last date for filing nominations is 6 April. Votes will be taken up for counting on 4 May.
