Actor-turned-politician Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday, 29 March, announced its candidates for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, scheduled for 23 April, during an event in Chennai. The party said Vijay will contest in two seats — Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East.
The event also witnessed Vijay unveil a comprehensive set of promises focused on empowering the youth.
The promises made by the TVK chief included a strong stance against drug abuse, combining strict enforcement with community policing and awareness campaigns, including anti-drug clubs in schools and colleges.
A major pillar of TVK’s promises is education, with an assurance that no young person will miss out due to financial constraints. The proposed scheme guarantees collateral-free, interest-free loans of up to ₹20 lakh for studies from the higher secondary level to PhD.
Alongside this, the party announced reforms in government recruitment aimed at introducing a transparent, time-bound system to ensure that all state job appointments are completed within a year.
To address unemployment, the party said, financial assistance will be provided to youth facing delays in securing jobs, while large-scale skill development initiatives promise lakhs of training opportunities each year with stipends.
The vision also encourages young people to become entrepreneurs through collateral-free loans of up to ₹25 lakh, shifting them from job seekers to job creators. It also prioritises local employment by incentivising private companies to hire Tamil Nadu residents, offering tax and electricity subsidies and procurement advantages.
According to the party’s vision, governance reforms include the creation of new grassroots roles to ensure doorstep delivery of government services, generating significant employment while strengthening the link between citizens and the state. In addition, it said a Tamil Nadu Youth Advisory Council will be established as a direct platform for young people to voice their ideas, concerns, and suggestions to the chief minister and government officials.
The proposal envisioned transforming Tamil Nadu into a global creative hub through a Creator Entrepreneurship Scheme, which includes seed funding for 1.5 lakh creators and the establishment of 500 creator schools for modern training. The party aims to position youth as active participants in governance, economic growth, and cultural development.
