Trisha Krishnan condemns BJP leader Nainar Nagendran’s ‘distasteful’ remarks, reaffirms political neutrality

Actor Trisha Krishnan on Monday, 16 February, has issued a statement through her legal counsel condemning the “distasteful and inappropriate” remarks made about her that are currently circulating in the media.

The statement comes in the wake of comments made by BJP Tamil Nadu state leader Nainar Nagendran, in which references were made to actor Vijay and Trisha in a manner that has drawn criticism.

On Saturday, 14 February, while speaking to the reporters, Nainar Nagendran claimed, “First Vijay should come out of Trisha’s house to gain field knowledge.”

In the statement, Trisha clarified that she is not affiliated with any political party and has consistently maintained a neutral stand on politics. She emphasised that she wishes to be recognised solely for her work as an actor and not be associated with any alleged political alignment.

The communique also underlined that personal lives should not be subjected to public commentary and stressed that individuals holding positions of power must exercise responsibility and restraint in public discourse. It further requested that her name not be drawn into matters that do not concern her.

The statement was issued on behalf of Trisha Krishnan by her counsel, Nithyaesh Natraj.

Later, on Monday, speaking to reporters, he expressed regret, and said the statement was made by mistake

“This was a statement made by mistake. Our all India women’s wing chief Vanathi Srinivasan and Annamalai has spoken to me about this matter. If anyone has been hurt by my statement, I express my heartfelt regrets,” the Tamil Nadu BJP president said.
