Synopsis: Governor Arlekar approved the portfolio allocations for ministers in the new Vijay Cabinet. Vijay has retained key portfolios, including Home and Urban Administration, while other major departments such as Finance, Health, Education and Industries were allocated to other ministers.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, holding the additional charge of Tamil Nadu, has approved the allocation of portfolios for the Council of Ministers recommended by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
According to a notification issued on Saturday, 16 May, Vijay will hold several major departments, including Public, General Administration, Home, Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, Women and Child Welfare, Youth Welfare, and Special Programme Implementation.
Vijay sprang a surprise by allocating the key Industries portfolio to Sivakasi MLA S Keerthana, 29, the youngest and the lone woman minister in his Cabinet.
Veteran political leader and Gopichettipalayam MLA KA Sengottaiyan has been appointed Finance Minister, while T Nagar MLA N Anand has been entrusted with Rural Development, Panchayats and Panchayat Union, Poverty Alleviation Programme, Rural Indebtedness and Irrigation, including Irrigation Projects and Small Irrigation.
Vilivakkam MLA Aadhav Arjuna has been allocated the Public Works and Sports Development portfolios.
Mylapore MLA P Venkataramanan will oversee the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
Former IRS officer and Tiruchengode MLA Dr KG Arunraj has been given charge of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare.
Egmore MLA Rajmohan will handle School Education, Archaeology, Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, Information and Publicity, Film Technology and the Cinematograph Act, along with Newsprint Control, Stationery and Printing, and Government Press departments.
Thiruparankundram MLA R. Nirmalkumar has been assigned the Electricity and Non-Conventional Energy Development, Law, Courts, Prisons and Prevention of Corruption departments, along with portfolios related to the Legislative Assembly, Governor, Elections and Passports.
Karaikudi MLA Dr TK Prabhu will head the Natural Resources Department, including Minerals and Mines.
