Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan has announced that the party will support the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led secular social justice alliance in the upcoming by-elections to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.
He said the TVK government has emerged as a government determined to put an end to corruption in all spheres of governance in Tamil Nadu after 60 years.
Vasan said the people of Tamil Nadu had brought about a change in the recent Assembly elections and that TVK president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who considers former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj as his ideological leader, has begun providing honest, transparent and corruption-free governance.
He further said that Vijay had gained the confidence of the people within a short period and expressed hope that Tamil Nadu would prosper in line with the ideals of Kamaraj and former TMC leader G.K. Moopanar.
“Therefore, on behalf of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), I announce our party’s support for the TVK-led alliance in the upcoming Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly by-elections, in support of the good initiatives being undertaken by the TVK government,” Vasan said.
The TMC(M) was part of the AIADMK-led NDA alliance in the recently concluded Assembly elections. The Madurantakam and Dharapuram by-elections have been necessitated by the resignations of former AIADMK MLAs K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama, who quit within weeks of the election results and joined the TVK.
The TVK has fielded both Kumaravel and Sathyabama from their respective constituencies. The AIADMK is set to fight the elections alone, as is the DMK. Meanwhile, the CPI and CPM, who offered support for the Vijay government from outside, have decided to contest against the TVK in the by-elections.
The by-elections are scheduled for October 6, with counting on October 9.
