Authorities in Ayodhya have launched a probe after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which manages the Ram Temple, received an email threatening a bomb blast.
The mail, written in English, was received late on Monday, 14 April. Its origin has been traced to Tamil Nadu. Though the officials confirmed the mail, they remained tightlipped about the content or the sender’s details.
Reports said other district in Uttar Pradesh, including Barabanki and Chandauli, too, received similar emails. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Ayodhya, and the state’s cyber cell was leading the probe.
Sources familiar with the matter said the email called for heightened security at the temple. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the message contained direct threats or any actionable intelligence.
In a separate development, a comprehensive security wall, stretching approximately four kilometres has been slated for construction around the Ram Temple complex.
Nripendra Misra, chairperson of the temple construction committee, said that Engineers India Limited has been tasked with the project. The wall’s height, thickness, and design have been finalised, and construction would begin after soil testing. The project would be completed in 18 months.
Misra further stated that the temple itself was nearing completion and would be completed within the next six months.
As of now, the identity and motive of the sender remain unverified. Authorities said that the investigation was on and that all necessary precautions were being taken to ensure the safety of the site.
The Ram Temple, opened in January 2024, is the second-most preferred destination in Uttar Pradesh after the Taj Mahal in Agra.
