A 41-year-old man was arrested for sexually abusing his minor daughter after she gave birth to a baby boy in a government hospital.

Tamil Nadu Police on Thursday, 4 August, arrested a 41-year-old man in Vellore for allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old minor daughter.

Vellore All Women Police in charge told South First that they have arrested the father of the victim. He is a welder by profession.

“Doctors of Government Vellore Medical College Hospital (GVMCH) in Adukkambarai informed us about the development. We rushed to the hospital and nabbed the accused father,” the officer added.

The accused and the victim are residents of Adukkambarai in Vellore.

According to police, the victim was admitted to the hospital by her father. The girl, after giving birth to a baby boy, informed the hospital staff that her father used to sexually assault her.

The police said that they have booked the accused father under Section 376 (rape) of IPC and Section 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act of 2012.

The girl is now undergoing treatment at the hospital, and she is recovering, the police officer added.

“Once she is discharged from the hospital, we will rope in a psychologist to give her counselling,” the officer added.

Earlier this year, in April, a special court in Tamil Nadu awarded the death sentence to a 49-year-old man for sexually assaulting his daughter in Chennai, while the victim’s mother was handed a life sentence on charges of abetment.

The judge of the special court for POCSO, while delivering the verdict, said: “A1 (victim’s father) is sentenced to death and that he is hanged by the neck till he is dead.”

The offence of aggravated penetrative sexual assault under section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2019 attracts the death penalty.

The abuse came to light in 2020 after the victim, a student of class 11 at a school in Chennai, narrated her ordeal to her friends.
