Tamil Nadu: DVAC nabs Tambaram sub-registrar red-handed taking Rs 2 lakh bribe

Revathi compelled Praveen to pay Rs 2 lakh at the time of registration and the remaining Rs 8 lakh upon collection of registered documents.

Synopsis: Tambaram Sub-Registrar (In-charge) Revathi was caught red-handed by DVAC for accepting Rs 2 lakh bribe for registering a 2400 sq ft property. She had demanded Rs 10 lakh total. Complainant Praveen Kumar tipped off DVAC, who laid a trap. Revathi and a document writer were arrested with the tainted cash.

The Sub-Registrar (In-charge) of Tambaram was nabbed by officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a person.

According to the DVAC, Praveen Kumar of Nedungundram had submitted an application to register a 2,400-square-foot property at the Tambaram Sub-Registrar’s office.

After examining the documents, Revathi, Assistant and Sub-Registrar (In-charge), Tambaram, demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the applicant, reported The Hindu.

She compelled him to pay Rs 2 lakh at the time of registration and the remaining Rs 8 lakh upon collection of the registered documents. Unwilling to comply, Praveen Kumar lodged a complaint with the DVAC.

DVAC officers laid a trap. When the complainant, as instructed, was about to hand over the Rs 2 lakh, Revathi directed a document writer to receive the money on her behalf.

DVAC personnel arrested Revathi and the document writer red-handed along with the bribe amount.
