Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments announce assistance to rain-battered Himachal Pradesh

The state governments of Rajasthan (₹15 crore) and Chhattisgarh (₹11 crore) also had announced financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh effected by floods

The Tamil Nadu government has announced financial aid of ₹10 crore to rain-hit Himachal Pradesh.

In a letter to his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister MK Stalin said he was anguished by the loss and devastation suffered by the hill state due to heavy rains and landslides.

“My thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the natural calamity…as a token gesture, the government of Tamil Nadu is contributing a sum of ₹10 crore towards the relief works in your state. Kindly accept the same,” he wrote.

Expressing the support of the Tamil Nadu government and the people, Stalin said, “If there is anything that we can do to assist in the recovery efforts, please do not hesitate to let me know.”

An official release in Chennai said Sukhu spoke to Stalin over the phone and informed him of damage caused by rain and related incidents and the government’s relief initiatives.

Stalin commended the efforts of the Himachal government in reaching out to the affected people. The chief minister said he is confident that under Sukhu’s leadership, Himachal Pradesh would “recover and rebuild soon.”

Siddaramiah pledges ₹15 crore assistance

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced financial assistance of ₹15 crore to Himachal Pradesh.

Thanking his counterpart, Sukhu said, “Deep gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah ji for the heartfelt gesture of announcing ₹15 crore financial aid from the Karnataka government to assist the rain and landslide-affected individuals in Himachal Pradesh.”

He further said, “This generous help will undoubtedly play a significant role in rehabilitating the affected community in Himachal.”

The state governments of Rajasthan (₹15 crore) and Chhattisgarh (₹11 crore) also had announced financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh.

At least 346 people were killed and 38 others were missing in the hill state, which has suffered an estimated loss of ₹8,100 crore.
