Tamil Nadu agency bags United Nations award for excellence at World Investment Forum

Guidance — the nodal agency of the Tamil Nadu government for promoting investment and single-window facilitation — bagged the United Nations Promotion Award 2023 for excellence on Monday, 16 October, at the 8th World Investment Forum held in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The agency under the Industries Department received the award for scaling up energy transition investments.

The award is a recognition of Guidance’s efforts to attract investments using innovative approaches for promotion, finance, and partnerships in energy transition promotion, said the department in a statement.

Guidance is South Asia’s only investment promotion agency to get the award this year.

The aforementioned statement said it was also India’s first investment promotion agency with the specific mandate of investment promotion and facilitation.

Guidance Managing Director and CEO V Vishnu received the award from United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Director General Rebeca Grynspan.

This was followed by an event attended by heads of states, global investment promotion Agencies (IPA) worldwide, and government representatives.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Dr TRB Rajaa said that the award was another feather in the cap for Team Guidance, which he said had played a key role in attracting investments from global companies in all sectors.

“The award is a recognition of the Tamil Nadu government’s visionary and progressive outlook,” he said.

The United Nations said Guidance was getting the award for “facilitating the first solar investment project with a fully vertical integrated photovoltaic thin film solar module manufacturing facility, notably through green incentives and higher training incentives for women”.

It added: “This project will facilitate access to low-cost solar panels and contribute to more sustainable cities in India.”

The biennial World Investment Forum, organised by the UNCTAD since 2008, monitors the mainstreaming of sustainable development goals by investment promotion agencies and conducts regular surveys.
