Tamil Nadu: 600 Kodaikanal resorts, homestays face action over norm violations (Creative Commons)
The Dindigul district administration has issued show-cause notices to nearly 600 resorts, cottages, and homestays in Kodaikanal for flouting regulatory norms. Two homestays were sealed during recent inspections in key areas like Silver Park and Observatory Road.
Officials found several properties operating without fire safety clearance, structural stability approvals, or local body certification. Many homestays reportedly function with domestic power connections and pay residential property tax, bypassing commercial licensing requirements.
The Kodaikanal Hotel and Resort Owners Association highlighted that while over 200 registered establishments comply with tax and guest reporting norms, numerous unlicensed operators evade commercial taxes and GST.
Authorities said the crackdown will continue to ensure full compliance and prevent misuse of unregulated accommodations.
