Stalin podcast

Aiming to build strong support for the Opposition bloc Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in taking on the BJP, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday, 31 August, said he would address the nation through a podcast series.

In what he deemed was a “voice from the South”, MK Stalin said his podcast series under the name “Speaking for India” will focus on how the Narendra Modi-ledBJP regime at the Centre was destroying the country and how the Dravidian major wanted the country to be built.

In the introductive video released on Thursday, Stalin was heard saying that he was compelled to speak for India, and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections would mark the end of the BJP rule in the country.

The announcement from Stalin came at the start of the election campaign for the Opposition bloc INDIA.

Speaking for India vs Mann Ki Baat

According to sources, the idea of the podcast messages was conceived by the Populus Empowerment Network (PEN), a political firm that is said to be working on the election strategy for the DMK. The series of podcast messages is designed for every fortnight.

Meanwhile, other sources said Stalin’s message would not be “limited to podcasts”, with other avenues telling the people about the achievements of the chief minister and the DMK government.

This could be a jibe at the pre-recorded and uninterrupted “Mann Ki Baat” radio broadcast — akin to a podcast — that Modi started after coming to power at the Centre in 2014.

“The podcast message will be a compilation of political and socio-achievements of the earlier DMK regimes and the one. Stalin’s message will also cover the current happenings, a comparative analysis of the BJP rule with the Dravidian-model rule, and also a reply to the propaganda of the BJP,” said sources.

“Recently, I started a question-and-answer session: Ungalil Oruvan (one among you) to share my views. The DMK is turning 75, and is the third major party in Parliament. It was nurtured by iconic leaders like (former chief ministers) CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, who created a deep impact,” said Stalin in a video on X (formerly Twitter), with the captions: “Awakening India’s tomorrow, A Southern Voice Speaks for India”.

“We are forced to speak for India. I am going to speak through an audio series about how the BJP regime, which will end in 2024, is destroying India and how we want to build an egalitarian and fraternal India,” he said.

“Shall we name it ‘Speaking for India’? Wait for this voice from the south!” he said in the video.

The video came on the day that the INDIA coalition parties were holding a meeting in Mumbai to discuss the alliance’s strategy to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections due next year and the inclusion of new allies.

‘Dravidian model’

DMK Union Secretary (Nanguneri East in the Tirunelveli district) Arockia Edwin told South First that the chief minister would podcast how Tamil Nadu was pioneering inclusive development among the southern states.

“We expect that the Chief Minister will speak on the historical achievements of the Dravidian movements. For example how social justice was nurtured in the state, how women were given property rights in their ancestor properties, how the social justice movement broke the chain of impediments in learning and education, how the meal system was introduced in schools, how women’s rights were put in front in the State, how the religious harmony is maintained in the Dravidian rule etc,” he said.

Edwin added: “The chief minister will put forth these kinds of achievements and might explain how the ‘Dravidian Model’-driven growth has developed the state further under the DMK rule, unlike in states ruled by the BJP.”

Not be limited to podcasts

Raghunath, a DMK IT wing member, told South First that the message would definitely reach the masses.

“This is a crucial stage and the BJP will unleash all its false propaganda claiming that the country is in a progressive mode under Modi. This chief minister’s podcast will counter it with the real growth of Tamil Nadu with all the available statistics and also the real meaning of inclusive growth among the southern states,” he said.

“This podcast will also be used as campaign material in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he added.

When asked about the reach and limitations of podcasts, DMK spokesperson Syed Hafeez told South First: “The chief minister has clearly mentioned that his message is targeted at the people of India. The message will not be limited to podcasts.”

He added: “Newspapers, digital media, and satellite media will carry the message so it reaches the masses and the target audience in less than 24 hours”

Hafeez also said that podcasts have maximum reachability: “The chief minister is keen on using all platforms of communication, and the message that is going to be conveyed really matters.”
