KA Sengottayan, TTV Dhinakaran, O Paneerselvam announcing their alliance at Pasumpon on Thursday, 30 October.
Synopsis: With senior AIADMK leader Sengottaiyan joining hands with Dhinakaran and Panneerselvam — both of whom have been working to consolidate anti-Edappadi forces — the alliance is being seen as a significant turning point in Tamil Nadu politics.
In what is construed as a major political development in Tamil Nadu, expelled AIADMK coordinator O Paneerselvam, former minister KA Sengottaiyan, and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran came together and declared a new political “journey”.
Significantly, the trio announced the alliance on Thursday, 30 October, coinciding with the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar Jayanti.
They said their aim is to defeat the AIADMK led by Edappadi K Palaniswami — not the AIADMK founded by MGR and J Jayalalithaa.
“We have taken a pledge to unite and bring back the rule of Jayalalithaa and MGR in Tamil Nadu. As a mark of that commitment, we — along with Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam Secretary TTV Dhinakaran and KA Sengottaiyan — have come together. This alliance will continue,” Pannerselvam declared at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram.
Dhinakaran, who spoke after Pannerselvam, named the alliance’s main rival.
“The AIADMK led by Edappadi Palaniswami is our opponent — not the original All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founded by MGR and Amma. Our party, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, was formed to defeat betrayal. We will stand united against that betrayal,” he said.
He further stated that the trio had come together to unite “Amma’s loyal followers to defeat betrayal and bring the AIADMK back to power once again. We are prepared to carry out our duties in the upcoming elections.”
Concluding the interaction, Sengottaiyan said, “The AIADMK is the movement created by MGR and Jayalalithaa. We all must come together and work to defeat the DMK.”
Before meeting the media, Panneerselvam and Sengottaiyan held discussions at a Madurai hotel. Both leaders then rode the same vehicle to Pasumpon. A few kilometres ahead of Pasumpon, Dhinakaran joined them.
The three leaders then travelled together to pay floral tributes at Muthuramalinga Thevar’s memorial.
Both Dhinakaran’s AMMK and Panneerselvam’s AIADMK Thondargal Urimai Meetpu Kulu had quit the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) earlier.
The primary reason, according to both leaders, was their refusal to accept Palaniswami as the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate.
Now, with senior AIADMK leader Sengottaiyan joining hands with Dhinakaran and Panneerselvam — both of whom have been working to consolidate anti-Edappadi forces — the alliance is being seen as a significant turning point in Tamil Nadu politics.
When Dhinakaran said, “Edappadi is our opponent,” Sengottaiyan stood beside him without objection — a gesture that many observers interpret as his silent endorsement of that view.
Dhinakaran has also confirmed that this alliance will continue into the upcoming elections and added that his aunt, VK Sasikala, will be part of the coalition.
Meanwhile, political circles suggested that Palaniswami may soon move to expel Sengottaiyan from the AIADMK.
Responding to the alliance, Palaniswami said “traitors” cannot destroy the AIADMK. “No matter how many betrayals or traitors come our way, they can never destroy the AIADMK. Our movement has faced greater challenges and stood strong. The AIADMK has no weakness. Sometimes weeds must be removed for the crop to grow well — that’s how we’ll protect our party.”
He was speaking to reporters near Kappalur in Madurai’s Thirumangalam.
To a specific query on whether he would expel Sengottaiyan from the AIADMK, Palaniswami said he has no hesitation to remove Sengottaiyan if necessary.
