Journalists slam Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan’s advisory to media
Synopsis: The Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan has dismissed media claims of a power tussle with the State Government over an annual higher education conference. Initiated in 2022, the Governor-led event promotes collaboration, innovation, and institutional growth. In a press release on 22 April, Raj Bhavan called the reports “erroneous,” reaffirming the event’s apolitical focus on enhancing academic excellence across Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan has categorically denied media reports claiming a power tussle between the Governor and the State Government regarding the upcoming annual conference of higher education leaders.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, 22 April, the Raj Bhavan described the reports as “erroneous and mischievous.”
According to the official statement, the conference—launched in 2022—is an annual initiative of the Governor of Tamil Nadu, aimed at bringing together academic and industry leaders from across the state and country.
The objective is to facilitate collaborative dialogue on emerging educational challenges, foster innovation, and enhance the quality and competitiveness of higher educational institutions in Tamil Nadu.
The Raj Bhavan underscored the importance of the event, noting that in the past, state universities operated in isolation, limiting their potential.
The conference has since helped bridge those gaps, benefiting students and institutions alike.
Preparations for the 2025 edition of the conference began as early as January, the release stated, with multiple rounds of meetings involving Vice-Chancellors and national experts to finalise themes, topics, and speakers.
The process, it said, is part of a structured academic exercise and not a political agenda.
The statement further condemned attempts to link the event to a recent court ruling, calling such portrayals “scandalous” and “far from the truth.”
The Raj Bhavan reaffirmed that the conference is an apolitical, constructive platform dedicated to improving higher education standards across Tamil Nadu.
The press note concluded by reiterating the Raj Bhavan’s commitment to promoting excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.
