A purported WhatsApp chat revealed how the zoology teacher of a private school in Puducherry’s Mudaliapret was allegedly forcing a class 12 girl to watch adult movies and making sexual advances on her.

The police have identified the accused teacher as 33-year-old Dhonivalavan, who teaches at the Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School.

“Students of the school called us and informed us that one of their batchmates was being sexually abused by a teacher,” Mudaliarpret police station Inspector Iniyan told South First.

He added that after receiving a complaint from the victim, they registered a case under Sections 10 & 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the teacher.

Another police officer, who is part of the investigating team, told South First that the victim said Dhonivalavan had been sexually abusing her for six months, and had threatened to deduct her marks in exams if she did not agree to his terms.

One of the WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by the teacher, translated from Tamil,  read, “It seems that you’re happy after blocking me. Now, wait and see what happens after this. Did you forget what I did during the test? Even your parents and friends would not believe what you say.”

The officer added that the teacher, in another of his WhatsApp messages written in Tamil, sent adult-website links to the student and also pushed her to watch clips.

“Dhonivalavan was also forcing the victim to take pictures of herself while watching the video and send them to him,” the officer said.

The police added that the girl eventually narrated her ordeal to her batchmates.

“On learning the teacher’s actions, they snatched his phone to verify the facts and lodged a complaint with the school management,” the officer said.

When the school management failed to take any stringent action against the teacher, the students called the police and informed them about the incident, he added.

The girl stays with her aunt as her parents passed away recently.

According to her guardian, the school management refused to take any action against the teacher.

She said, “We urge the police to probe the issue fairly. I seek justice for our child. There may be others whom the teacher might be exploiting.”

The Puducherry Police are also investigating the school management’s role in the incident.

The accused is yet to be arrested by the police.
