At least five private schools in Chennai found themselves at the centre of a security scare following bomb threats via email on Thursday, 8 February. The Greater Chennai Police have urged the public to remain calm while they investigate the incidents.

According to police reports, at least five schools were targeted in the threat — DAV Boys Senior Secondary School in Gopalapuram, Chettinad Vidyashram in RA Puram, Chennai Public School in Anna Nagar and Mogappair, and St Marys’ School in Parrys.

The threats prompted anxious parents to rush to the schools to pick up their children, heightening concerns within the community. On hearing the news, parents of children in schools who did not receive the bomb threat soon started turning up at the schools, driven by fear.

This has caused traffic jams across the city.
