Pollachi: 16-year-old girl, grandmother stabbed to death for allegedly refusing marriage proposal

On Monday evening, he allegedly went to the girl’s house and once again insisted on marrying her. When the girl refused, he is said to have taken out a knife he had concealed and stabbed her.

Synopsis: According to available information, Abhishek (24), a native of Kappalangarai near Negamam, had been claiming that he was in love with the 16-year-old girl and had been pressuring her to marry him. However, as the girl had not yet attained the legal age for marriage, her family had reportedly advised him to wait and discuss the matter later.

A 16-year-old girl and her grandmother were allegedly stabbed to death by a 24-year-old man near Pollachi on Monday, 23 February evening after the girl reportedly refused his proposal for marriage.

The incident occurred at Kondegoundanpalayam near Pollachi. Boopathy, a resident of the area, was living with his two daughters aged 16 and 17, and his mother Mayilatha.

According to available information, Abhishek (24), a native of Kappalangarai near Negamam, had been claiming that he was in love with the 16-year-old girl and had been pressuring her to marry him. However, as the girl had not yet attained the legal age for marriage, her family had reportedly advised him to wait and discuss the matter later.

Police said that Abhishek was not willing to accept this. On Monday evening, he allegedly went to the girl’s house and once again insisted on marrying her. When the girl refused, he is said to have taken out a knife he had concealed and stabbed her.

When her grandmother Mayilatha attempted to intervene, she was also stabbed. The girl’s 17-year-old sister, who tried to stop the accused, was attacked as well.

The 16-year-old girl and her grandmother died on the spot. Th e injured 17-year-old was rescued by neighbours and rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital by ambulance, where she is currently undergoing intensive treatment.

On receiving information, the Negamam police rushed to the scene and began an investigation. The accused, Abhishek, later surrendered at the Negamam Police Station.

Police have registered a case of double murder and are continuing further investigation.
