Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) President Dr Anbumani Ramadoss announced a statewide rally.

Synopsis: PMK President Dr Anbumani Ramadoss announced a statewide rally in the run-up to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Anbumani accused the ruling DMK government of systematically denying these constitutional rights to the people of Tamil Nadu.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) President Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday, 23 Wednesday, announced a statewide rally in Tamil Nadu titled Tamilaga Makkal Urimai Meetpu Payanam (Tamil Nadu People’s Rights Retrieval Journey). For the rally, he is raising the slogan: “To reclaim our rights… to protect future generations.”

The announcement follows AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami’s campaign trail in Tamil Nadu. PMK is an ally of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu along with the BJP and others.

Anmbumani announced that the rally will begin on Friday, 25 July, from Tiruporur in the Chengalpattu district, and conclude on Tamil Nadu Day — 1 November — in Dharmapuri.

Releases charter of rights

The programmes are being organised to rally people behind the alliance to fight against the ruling DMK-led alliance ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026.

With the Assembly elections just 10 months away, PMK released a 10-point charter of rights while announcing the statewide rally.

The rights include:
1. Right to social justice.
2. Women’s right to live free from violence.
3. Right to employment.
4. Right to agriculture and food.
5. Right to development.
6. Right to good governance and basic services.
7. Right to education and well-being.
8. Right to protection from alcohol and substance abuse.
9. Right to sustainable urban development.
10. Right to a healthy environment.

Anbumani accused the ruling DMK government of systematically denying these constitutional rights to the people of Tamil Nadu. Anbumani announced the rally amid the ongoing power tussle between party founder and his father, S Ramadoss.

Earlier this month, Ramadoss removed Anbumani from the party’s executive committee and announced a restructured leadership team. The announcement came following a high-level consultation held with newly appointed executive committee members.

In April, Ramadoss declared himself president of the party and announced that Anbumani would be its working president. However, Anbumani has not accepted these decisions, saying only the general body had the authority to remove him from the post.

Incidentally, Ramadoss is conducting a women’s conference on 10 August. However, the event’s notices and posters do not mention Anbumani’s name but his sister Gandhimathi Ramadoss.
