Synopsis: On 25 June, PMK founder S Ramadoss held a key meeting with party leaders. Reasserting his leadership, he said only present office-bearers would contest the 2026 Assembly polls. He emphasized grooming new leaders, affirmed control over candidate selection, and promised a strong, unique alliance despite it not being finalized yet.
The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK ) founder S Ramadoss on Wednesday, 25 June, held a consultative meeting at his residence in Thailapuram, which was attended by newly appointed district secretaries, district presidents, state administrators of the party, and office bearers across several districts.
Earlier this month, family feud within the PMK had intensified with S Ramadoss convening a news conference against his son Dr Anmbumani Ramadoss.
Following the meeting, Ramadoss addressed the media and responding to current issues within the PMK, he said, “Whatever the issue may be, a solution will certainly emerge. I have been guiding both the party and the parent organization for the past 46 years. P Arulmozhi serves as the president of the parent organization, while I continue to lead the party.”
He added, “I have established 34 affiliated wings and have been actively guiding all of them. These units are functioning efficiently. Now, it’s time to motivate and support the next line of leaders to carry the work forward. We are gearing up to face the upcoming elections with full speed and are confident of achieving a major victory.”
Further speaking of the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, Ramadoss said, “Only those who have come here today — the district secretaries, district presidents, and state functionaries — will be given the opportunity to contest in the elections. I will select the candidates from among them. These are the people who will become the future MLAs, as I hold all the necessary powers. That is why I have taken charge to choose capable and qualified individuals to represent the party in the Assembly.”
Speaking on the alliance strategy, he added, “You may ask whether the alliance has been finalized. It has not. But I can assure you that it will be a good, unique, and winning alliance.”
He had earlier launched a scathing and personal attack on his son and party president, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, alleging betrayal, humiliation, and attempts to forcefully remove him from the party he founded and nurtured for nearly five decades.
In May, Ramadoss had called for a meeting of party district secretaries at his residence, and extended invitations to 220 leaders. Only 22 attended the meeting. Among those who skipped the meeting was the party’s working president, Anbumani Ramadoss.
