Synopsis: After unidentified individuals hurled petrol bombs in front of the houses of three youngsters in a Chennai neighbourhood, the police have confirmed that four individuals were involved in the incident, and three have been apprehended.
A shocking incident in Chennai’s Kovilambakkam area late on Wednesday, 11 June, sparked panic after unidentified individuals hurled petrol bombs in front of the houses of three youths.
The first incident occurred at around 8.45 pm on Wednesday in Sathya Nagar 3rd Street, where unidentified assailants riding a two-wheeler threw a petrol bomb in front of the house of a 25-year-old youngster named Akash.
Similar attacks were reported at the residences of 26-year-old Manikandan from Sathya Nagar 9th Street, and 24-year-old Gugan from Bhajanai Koil Street in Chinna Kovilambakkam.
However, no injuries were reported following the attacks. Meanwhile, the incidents caused widespread panic and fear among residents. Immediate information was relayed to the Madipakkam Police Station, and police personnel arrived at the scenes of the incidents to conduct an inquiry.
During the preliminary investigation, residents told police that if anyone had been standing at the doorsteps, the attack could have resulted in serious harm.
Following a swift investigation, police arrested three students in connection with the incident. According to sources, the attacks stemmed from a financial dispute related to the illegal sale of pain relief tablets being misused as narcotic drugs.
A disagreement over money reportedly led the accused to target the victims with petrol bombs.
Police have confirmed that four individuals were involved in the incident. While three have been apprehended, one student is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.
Police said a probe is underway and more information will be revealed later.
