Bharat Jodo Yatra Day 2

The second day of the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra, headlined by Rahul Gandhi, began on Thursday, 8 September, from Agastheeswaram in the Kanniyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

During the yatra, Rahul met the family members of Anita, a medical aspirant from Ariyalur district who died by suicide in 2017 over anxiety surrounding NEET.

Senior Congress leaders like MPs KC Venugopal and P Chidambaram, as well as Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took part in the yatra and accompanied Rahul Gandhi.

The yatra is taking place in two phases, between 7 am and 10.30 am and again from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm, covering about 22-25 km on average, Congress sources told South First.

On the second day, Rahul also met children at the Jawahar Bal Manch, followed by women activists, Dalit groups and environmentalists.

He also met civil society leaders during the march.

Rahul is expected to interact with people from all walks of life on each day of the yatra.

Congress workers and supporters gathered in masses, played the drums, and welcomed the Congress leader along the yatra route.

After the first phase of Thursday’s yatra, Rahul stopped at the SM Higher Secondary School at Suchindrum. This school was visited by Mahatma Gandhi and C Rajagopalachari in 1937.

The Congress leader also had tender coconut while on his march.

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh tweeted that the yatra had completed 20 km, which was a great beginning.

He also said, “Headlinejeevi will do a lot to distract attention but only those who walk the talk count! [sic]”

In another tweet, the leader said, “Scenes from the evening… Yatris unwinding outside their containers at the end of a hectic but inspiring day of #BharatJodoYatra [sic]”.
