Newly-appointed Judge Victoria Gowri will be hearing PILs and writ petitions at Madurai Bench

Newly-appointed Judge Victoria Gowri will be hearing PILs and writ petitions at Madurai Bench 

The Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court allotted new portfolios to the additional judges who were sworn in on Tuesday, 7 February.

According to a notification issued by the Registrar (Judicial) of Madras High Court, Justices Victoria Gowri and KK Ramakrishnan will be sitting at Madurai Bench from Wednesday.

Justice Victoria Gowri will be seated at the first bench of the Madurai Bench with Administrative Judge D Krishnakumar.

Further, she will be hearing public interest litigations; all division-bench writ petitions; writ appeals filed from the year 2022; criminal contempt and Appeals relating to orders in contempt proceedings; and all other division-bench civil appellate side cases that were filed from the year 2021.

When the division bench is not sitting, Justice Victoria Gowri will take up old civil revision petitions from the provisional list.

Further, Justice KK Ramakrishnan, who was sworn in on Tuesday along with Justice Victoria Gowri, will take up habeas corpus petitions; all criminal appeals, and other criminal cases, including cases related to crime against women and children, along with Justice G Jayachandran.

Further, the bench will be hearing the writ appeals filed up to the year 2021 and civil appellate cases that were filed up to the year 2020.

Further, Justice Ramakrishnan will hear the old criminal original petitions (under Sections 407 and 482 of the CrPC) and writ petitions (CrPC.) from the provisional list.
