Synopsis: Angered by the ruling, Balamurugan allegedly hurled a machete at the judge. Court sources said the weapon did not hit the judge, who escaped unharmed.

A man, on Monday, 16 February, allegedly attacked a judge with a machete after being dissatisfied with a verdict delivered in a family dispute case at the Srivilliputhur Family Court in Virudhunagar district, triggering panic on court premises.

The accused, Balamurugan of Sengulam, was involved in a case with his wife Thangamuneeswari following marital discord. As there was no permanent judge in the Family Court, the case was being overseen by Sudhakar, a judge from the PCR court, who pronounced the verdict.

Angered by the ruling, Balamurugan allegedly hurled a machete at the judge. Court sources said the weapon did not hit the judge, who escaped unharmed.

Police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. Preliminary information suggests that Balamurugan is suffering from mental health issues. Further investigation is under way.
