Doctors in Madurai have accused Dr P Kumaragurubaran, the Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS), of using disrespectful and abusive language during official video meetings.
The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association (TNGDA) said several medical officers filed complaints against him for allegedly using rude words and gestures.
The issue gained public attention after a video of the incident began circulating on social media.
Dr L Senthil, president of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association (TNGDA), stated that the District Health Officer (DHO) had already undergone an inquiry for his inappropriate behaviour toward doctors working at Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
However, despite this, the official allegedly continued to mistreat doctors and misused 17-b charges, disciplinary actions typically reserved for serious misconduct against them for minor or unimportant reasons.
He explained that the weekly meetings led by the Deputy Director (DD) were not helpful and were considered a waste of time. So, the doctors have now asked for these meetings to be reviewed every month instead of weekly.
He also said that doctors, like Block Medical Officers and Medical Officers, should not be asked to come to the District Health Officer’s office for non-urgent matters. If any meetings are needed, they should be held before 4 p.m., which is their official duty time at Primary Health Centres. The TNGDA further demanded quick action against the official for treating doctors badly.
