Synopsis: According to reports, the child, a UKG student from Nelkattumseval, was standing inside the school campus after classes when a car entering the premises allegedly rammed into her. She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

A four-year-old girl, identified as Siva Yazhini, was killed on Tuesday, 24 March, after a car hit her inside the premises of a private school in Chinthamani near Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district.

According to reports, the child, a UKG student from Nelkattumseval, was standing inside the school campus after classes when a car entering the premises allegedly rammed into her. She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Following the incident, the girl’s parents, relatives, and local residents staged a protest demanding action against those responsible. More than 100 people blocked the Kollam–Thirumangalam National Highway, bringing traffic to a halt. The protest, which later swelled to around 200 participants, continued for over 20 hours, severely disrupting vehicular movement, with traffic being diverted through alternate routes.

Tensions escalated during the protest as a group of agitated protesters laid siege to the school premises. Some individuals also pelted stones, damaging the glass of a nearby ATM, while stones were reportedly thrown inside the school campus, creating a tense situation. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to control the situation.

The protest was eventually called off after prolonged negotiations between officials and the protesters, leading to a compromise. Traffic on the national highway has since resumed normal operations.

Police have arrested two persons, identified as Ramkanth and Senthil Raja from Mullikulam, in connection with the accident. Further investigation is underway.
